Our first fundraising event took place on June 11 at the Rose Tavern on Rupert Street. Despite a few early technical difficulties, the night was a great success – Jose McGill from the Vagaband, Das Fenster & The Alibis and Ben Grizzly & The Loose Leaf Drifters all gave fantastic performances, and the night was ably held together by compère Andy Bennett, who treated us all to some captivating poetry between sets. Our cakes sold out well before the end of the night, and the fantastic generosity of the gig-goers was more than matched by Janet, the Rose's wonderful landlady, who gave us a cut of the food and bar takings. We were hoping that we might raise a couple of hundred quid to get things up and running, but the final total was in excess of £350! We'd like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to the pub, the punters, the bands and everyone who has helped to spread the word. Keep following us here, on Twitter and on Facebook, and we'll have more exciting news soon!
